ABOUT THE BOOK

Scarlet, Circles, and Dreams

It started out like so many nights before it: an intoxicating evening spent in my downtown Gaslamp Quarter art studio. The paint was flowing from my brush independent of any conscious thought, directing me towards another painting’s yet to be revealed destination.

But things soon changed. Creative exhilaration derailed into a train wreck of epic proportion. Elation was unexpectedly overcome by ill health, confusion, and darkness. Time changed from being a familiar and reliable friend to an unpredictable foe. It was as if a tidal wave had crashed upon me. My head was spinning out of control, while my body felt like it was being tossed in all directions, making it impossible to discern up from down—reality from illusion.

The series of events that followed continues to mystify me and impact my daily life.
